Lesson 9

Turn the yellow corners

The last stage: turn each yellow corner so its yellow sticker faces up, and finish the cube.

Goal: turn the four yellow corners in their places and finish the cube. When it is done, the top face is all yellow and one last turn of the top layer solves the cube.

Recognise the case

Find a corner whose yellow does not face up and turn the top layer to bring it to the top front right. In this stage you never rotate the whole cube; you only turn the top layer.

  • Turn the corner

The corner whose yellow does not face up is at the top front right. Do turn corner (R' D' R D) 2 or 4 times, until its yellow faces up. Then turn only the top layer to bring the next corner.

  • The last top layer turn

The yellow of all four corners faces up. Turn the top layer and the cube is solved.

What to do

Do turn corner (R' D' R D) until the yellow of the top front right corner faces up: 2 or 4 times. Then turn only the top layer to bring the next corner whose yellow does not face up to the top front right, and repeat.

Important: during this stage the lower layers will look broken. Do not worry and keep going: once all four corners are turned, the lower layers come back by themselves. If you rotate the whole cube in the middle of the stage, they do not.

When: When a corner has its yellow sticker facing sideways. Hold that corner at the top front right; repeat 2 or 4 times until yellow faces up.

Finger tip: Four short moves. Then only turn the top layer to bring the next corner; keep going even if the lower layers look broken.
